The team worked on troubleshooting, testing, and repairing the robot throughout the competition, had a fully functioning and battle tested robot by the end of the week, and are eagerly looking forward to the next competition.
Congratulations to these students who participated: Elexius Bradley, Emma Flora, Cameron Gates, Matthew Gordon, Kristen Holman, Michael Koch, Taylor Parks, Mason Reno, Ben Rochford, Jeremiah Sanders, Affan Syed and Alex Wallace. A special thanks to Mr. Martin, Mr. Daw and Mr. Nylander for coaching the team and mentors Tom Argiro (SVGS alumn), Zach Clasbey and Greg del Rosario. A special thanks to Cadence for their financial support
The 2018 game, FIRST Stronghold, was announced on January 9th. Students had from that date until February 23rd to design, construct, program, and wire a functioning robot capable of both autonomous code and remote control. This year’s competition animation can be found here by clicking here.
After countless hours in the evenings and on Saturdays , the SVGS robot was completed and bagged up until competition! It features a motorized lift system, compliant wheels on arms for grabbing and lifting cubes, and a webcam for image recognition and live video streaming back to the controller computer.
SVGS will be also be competing in FIRST Southwest Virginia Event in Blacksburg from March 23th – 25th.
