The purpose for these workshops would be to 1) promote students working together in community of learners, 2) expose students to technology/tools, expectations for using tools and technology to solve problems at SVGS, and 3) have fun! These seminars being offered are listed below. Students may attend one seminar.

Seminars will have limited enrollment and will be determined on a “first come, first serve” basis based on registration.
|1||Intro to Biotechnology||Students will be introduced to DNA science and basic techniques in biotech. Through animations, simulations, and hands-on activities, they will explore techniques used in forensic DNA analysis including PCR and gel electrophoresis.|
|2||Intro to CAD and 3D Printing||Students will be introduced to Computer Aided Design (CAD) and use CAD designs to learn about 3D printing. *Not intended for students who have taken a CAD class previously.|
|3||Intro to Coding with Python||In this seminar, we will learn some of the basics of programming in the programming language Python as we play with computer graphics and make some games. This seminar is intended for the beginning programmer.|
|4||Intro to Devised Theater||This seminar will build theatre through community, collaboration, and improvisation.|
|5||Intro to Digital Humanities||This workshop will provide a solid base for students transitioning into the SVGS experience by providing an overview of the way we read/think/discuss/explore in Humanities through a variety of intellectually rewarding content and interesting topics, collaborating on deep thinking, and producing a digital record of your three-day experience.|
|6||Intro to Drones||This seminar will cover the basics of drone operations from the mechanics of flight to the law surrounding their use. The students will learn to fly micro drones and compete in challenges involving flight. We will also explore the drone technology currently available to the students and develop a mission that can be completed using our current technology.|
|7||Intro to Electric Vehicles||Students will build and test a PWM (pulse-width modulation) control circuit using the breadboards and/or the Basic stamp and test it on the Electric Vehicle circuit simulator|
|8||Intro to Geospational Information Systems||The GIS seminar will include a brief introduction to the ArcMap/Catalogue software and ArcGIS online. Students will complete a group project using statistical analysis through GIS.|
|9||Intro to Mathematical Modeling||In mathematical modeling, we will use the mathematics you already know to develop solutions to big, messy, reality-based problems in a wide variety of contexts. This will be engaging and interactive as students work on a team to develop solutions.|
|10||Intro to Photoshop||Students will look at how to use a few of the many tools available on Photoshop and at how to use layers to separate different aspects of the image to your advantage|
|11||Intro to Robotics||Students will learn about the fundamentals of the FIRST Robotics Compeitition, explore previous years’ games, and ultimately design and construct a small robot to compete in a mini-challenge designed by SVGS staff.|
|12||Intro to Technology Design & Physics||In this activity, students will be guided by teacher to envision, describe and present a new technology product 20 years in the future through studying several basic modern physics concepts, collaborative brainstorming and research of current existing technology.|
