Virginia State Science & Engineering Fair

On Saturday, March 28, nearly 300 high school students across the state presented projects for expert judges from higher education and businesses across the commonwealth at the 30th annual Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair.

Taylor Bauer, “Effects of Decibel Level on the Retention of Information”
Erin Fosnocht, “A Simple Formula For Predicting Radiation Fog”
Abigail Johnson , “The Determination of Biologically Facilitated Atrazine Removal in Lentic Microcosms”

Congratulations to all three students! SVGS was well represented as all three were recognized at the state level for their outstanding work.

These students received the following honors:
Taylor Bauer, 3rd place in Behavioral and Social Sciences
Erin Fosnocht, 2nd Place in Earth & Planetary Science
Abigail Johnson, 2nd place in Environmental Management

 

 

 

 

 

 

IMG_0501rIn addition, students were recognized with the following special awards:
American Meteorological Society – Erin Fosnocht
The American Meterological Society awards two certificates of achievement to student exhibitors with the best projects in areas related to atmospheric, oceanic and hydrologic sciences.

Stockholm Jr. Water Prize – Abigail Johnson
Awards certificated to the top 3 most outstanding water-realted research projects based on relevance, creativity, methodology, subject knowledge, practical skill and presentation.

Virginia Section of the American Water Works – Abigail Johnson
The VAAWWA is an international no-profit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply and provides monetary awards.

ASU Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiative – Abigail Johnson
Provides two awards for projects which seek innovative solutions to humanity’s most challenging problems in the field or either social justice or environmental and economic prosperity.

 

 

 

 

download (4) In addition, Abigail Johnson has qualified to participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, May 10-15.
