SVGS Students Learn Cyber Security

Cyber security is one of the hottest tech jobs in a rapidly growing field with demand much higher than the current qualified workforce.  SVGS is one of few schools in the western half of he state to offer a curriculum addressing this cutting edge technology.

This is a new SVGS class co-taught by John York, BRCC network engineer and Len Klein SVGS technology teacher.  BRCC generously donated computers for a lab.

Fifteen SVGS seniors enrolled in the Computer Software Operations and Security Class have been introduced to information technology security skills such as networking, scripting, operating systems.  They competed in the Cyber Aces competition sponsored by SANS in the Fall.  All students place above the 75th percentile in this national competition.  SVGS was the only school west of Richmond to participate in this contest. The following students placed above the 90th percentile nationally in the Cyber Aces Competition:Andy Vollmer, WMHS
